World's most famous non-superhero draws police attention
A PHOTO-bombing "antihero" has been attracting the attention of police in Cairns.
A person dressed as the comic book character Deadpool has been regularly spotted around the Cairns CBD lately, and this morning police were called to investigate how real the weapons were.
"The Queensland Police Service received a report of a man carrying weapons in Cairns this morning," a police spokesman said.
"Officers attended the scene and determined the weapons to be replicas which posed no risk to the community."
It is not illegal for someone to carry replica weapons.
However carrying real swords is illegal.
As well as police, the costume wearing character seems to be contributing to tourists' experiences in Cairns, with many stopping for photos.
The character Deadpool first appeared in The New Mutants #98 comic in 1991, and went on to star in a 2016 film.
With a budget of $58 million, it made $783.1 million worldwide.
