Worker rescued from burning Sunshine Coast Airport hangar
UPDATE 10.25AM: Fire has caused extensive damage to the upper levels of a Coast helicopter hangar.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Maroochydore command officer Inspector Cameron Herbert said the damage was done to a mezzanine level of McDermott Aviation.
Inspector Herbert said Sunshine Coast Airport's on site fire team were the first on the scene.
"There were large plumes of black smoke en route to the incident," Inspector Herbert said.
"The staff from McDermott Aviation had removed one of the workers who had been overcome by smoke inhalation and moved him to safety."
Paramedics assess the man at the scene but he refused transport to hospital.
Crews had the fire under control in about 10 minutes.
Workers from neighbouring buildings were also evacuated.
Firefighters are still on site dampening hot spots to ensure the remnants of the fire have been extinguished.
