WATCH: Massive snake chills out on Coast family's fridge

WHAT would you do if you went to the fridge for a snack and came face to face with something that could take a bite out of you?

That precise situation happened to a Sunshine Coast family this week when they came face to face with a two-metre carpet python chilling out on top of their refrigerator.

The Noosaville family quickly called Stuart McKenzie from Sunshine Coast Snake Catcher 24/7 to catch the unwanted guest.

"Originally he was just relaxing on top but then he made it difficult as soon as I touched him," Mr McKenzie said.

"Usually they just slide off the top (of the fridge) but he was able to get his head in the back and wedge into different areas.

"I don't really like head grabbing which I did have to do gently in the end.

"It took me way longer than it should to get him out... even the fridge started beeping at me."

The snake may have found his way into the house through an open window or door.

"That's why fly screens are so good, so you don't have to worry about critters getting in," Mr McKenzie said.

Once freed, the carpet python was released away from homes in nearby bushland.

Mr McKenzie shared a video of the tricky catch on the Snake Catchers Sunshine Coast 24/7 Facebook page, which has been watched nearly 70,000 times in 24 hours.

September will mean more snake activity than the winter months, with catchers reminding Sunshine Coast residents to be careful our local serpents.

"It's turning into spring now and people need to be wary of snakes," Mr McKenzie said.

"They're nothing to worry about, just deep your distance and be respectful."
