This is why toilet was mysteriously flushing for days
A SUNSHINE Coast family had been perplexed for days at how their toilet was mysteriously flushing itself, when they opened a panel to find a snake hiding inside.
The Doonan family had noticed their toilet was flushing at random, but assumed it was a problem with the mechanism.
When a family member finally removed the panel behind the toilet, they were shocked to find a brown tree snake resting against the flushing mechanism.
The snake was equally spooked, and managed to escape back out of sight inside the wall.
Two weeks later the phantom flushes restarted, tipping the family off to the snake's return.
Snake catcher Luke Huntley was called to the home, and managed to extract the "grumpy" reptile.
"It was a quick catch but but it needed to be," he said.
"That or putting my hand down into the toilet water."
The snake was released into state forestry.
