Teen surf champ makes colourful return
DANCING with friends while colour bombs rained down came as a welcome break from the intense training and concentration to which Coolum surfing world champion Isabella Nichols has become accustomed.
This morning's Color Run was the first outing Miss Nichols had been on since arriving back in Australia yesterday morning.
Miss Nichols was with twin sister Helena and some other friends at Sunshine Coast Stadium enjoying the start to a fortnight break.
The 18-year-old this week claimed the Women's World Junior Championships title in Portugal.
"I slept all day yesterday but I've had so many people sending me nice messages," Miss Nichols said.
"It makes me feel really good to know the community is really supportive and getting behind me."
She was training every day in the lead up to the event.
"It was stressful; I wanted to do well because I put so much effort into it."
She enjoyed the chance to relax and some normal teenage things yesterday.
"It's the best.
"I would go insane if I didn't."
Miss Nichols said she would have a two-week break before starting her preparation for a World Qualifying Series event in Newcastle next month.
