Snakes scale new heights in sightseeing adventure

The Sunshine Coast is renowned for its picturesque landscapes, sightseeing and walking tours, but now there's a new kind of tour in town.

A snake catcher is offering the chance to get up close and personal with the reptiles he removes.

From January, Snake Catcher 24/7 boss Stuart McKenzie will allow the public to follow in his footsteps for the day.

"We've been working on this for two years and probably been asked about it for five years," Mr McKenzie said.

"It enables anybody to come out with us for the day and experience what it's like to be a snake catcher.

"It's a pretty awesome experience, it's probably the only place in the world you can do it."

Mr McKenzie said every tour would be unique.

"Our days are different every day, that's why I love my job," he said.

"Basically you can expect to see some of the world's most venomous snakes.

"In one day we can catch brown, red bellies, carpet snakes, whip snakes, tree snakes, you name it.

"It's all about education as well, it's an opportunity for you to ask us any questions you have."

Mr McKenzie said it could be a cure for people who feared snakes.

"A lot of people are scared of snakes as we know but coming out on a tour with us you don't need to necessarily handle them or touch them," Mr McKenzie said.

"But at least being close to them and getting experience with how snakes act and how they're not out to get us and just learn to respect them, maybe it will help you get over your fear.

"For those adrenaline junkies out there though, it's a chance for you to come out and see one of the most dangerous jobs in the world."

Tours will kick off in January and will include an edited video of your day on the road.
