Sarina Beach closed after large croc sighting
THE spotting of a large crocodile has forced the closure of Sarina Beach today.
Sarina Surf Lifesaving Club president Neil John said fishermen spotted the reptile at the inlet at Sarina boat ramp.
“It was difficult to estimate size but they reckon it was between a three to four metre croc so a decent size,” Mr John said.
“It wasn’t actually at Sarina Beach but it was close enough to the bathing reserve that we had to shut the beach.
“The chances of being bitten by a shark or a crocodile are pretty low but we’ve got to put out the red flags when these things happen.
“We put these warning south as a public safety thing.
“Tomorrow morning, we’ll be down the boat ramp and have a look and if there’s no sightings, we’ll pull the flags down.”
