Pre-polling begins in Noosa

THE first votes for the four new de-amalgamating councils have been cast with pre-polling booths opening in Noosa.

Local Government Minister David Crisafulli said it was important registered voters in each of the four areas had their say.

"This is an historic opportunity for people to contribute to the make-up of a new council," Mr Crisafulli said.

"We promised communities during the election campaign that where possible they could have their say on de-amalgamation and it's now over to them to elect their new leaders.

"I urge residents who can't vote on 9 November to get in early and make their vote count by choosing the candidates they think will help lead their region with a view to the future, not the past."

Mr Crisafulli said 88 people from a diverse range of backgrounds had nominated to stand for their respective councils across the four regions.

Pre-polling has also opened in Livingstone, Mareeba and Douglas and will continue until November 8 with Election Day to be held on Saturday November 9.
