ACTOR Ryan Phillippe's ex-girlfriend claims the star physically assaulted her in a drunken rage.

Elsie Hewitt, 21, sued Phillippe, 43, for allegedly punching and kicking her, and throwing her down a flight of stairs, in his Los Angeles home following an argument on July 3, The New York Post reports.

"He grabbed Hewitt's upper arm so tightly that his grip left heavy bruises on her arm hours later. He then braced his body and violently threw her down his staircase as hard as he could," Hewitt claimed in court documents obtained by The Blast.

She also claimed he was "discernibly drunk and high" at the time, and that he was growing increasingly "infatuated" with her.

The Guess model, who reportedly dated Phillippe since April, also accused the actor of "repeatedly abusing a panoply of legal and illegal drugs, including without limitation: cocaine, ecstasy, psychedelic mushrooms and steroids."

Hewitt was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre, where police filed a report and granted Hewitt a temporary emergency restraining order against Phillippe.

Phillippe was not arrested following the alleged incident, nor were charges filed against him.

The actor has since taken to Twitter to deny the accusations, claiming he's "saddened and disgusted."

Hewitt, Miss June 2017 in Playboy, seeks $US1 million ($1.25 million) in her lawsuit, citing chest wall pain, severe bruising and abrasions.

Hewitt's lawyer, Keith Fink, told The New York Post: "Ms Hewitt filed this case for all those women who have been abused. Such conduct is intolerable. Neither she nor I seek any money in this case and any money awarded will be donated to a battered women society."

A rep for Phillippe vehemently denied the claims.

"As a staunch advocate for the health, wellbeing, and equality of women, Ryan is completely devastated that these false allegations have been made and circulated," his rep said.

"Domestic violence is an incredibly serious issue and fabricated and proven false claims should not be used to unjustly slander the falsely accused. The claims are false."

Ryan has two children - Ava, 17, and Deacon, 13 - with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon.
