Peregian loses its carols ‘bang’

ONE of Noosa's favourite Christmas celebrations has lost its explosive spark - all for a very good reason … helping keep the place fire free.

The 55th Annual Peregian Beach Christmas Carols has taken a tough decision to cancel its family favourite fireworks finale in the wake of Noosa's traumatic fire season.

Carols host the East Coast Originals will instead will donate their fireworks budget to the local community recovery efforts.

"In light of all of the devastation that both New South Wales and Queensland and Peregian Beach/Noosa Shire in particular has undergone over the past few months, the East Coast Originals will be donating back to local wildlife rescue centre and Queensland Rural Fire Service," Originals president Kimberly Ferguson said.

Ms Ferguson said this was their show of "appreciation and support to the tremendous efforts that have been made in the past few months".

"This decision was not made lightly, with thousands flocking to the event annually to take part in the festivities which include the display of fireworks over the Peregian Beach," she said.

"However given the devastation of the recent months within the community, the East Coast Originals simply could not go ahead with the display.

"The organisation encourages those who were looking forward to the display to still attend the event with a massive array of other Christmas festivities to be held at Peregian Beach Park for the 55th consecutive year on Sunday December 1," she said.

"This year will truly be a community celebration, we look forward to seeing the local and wider community in attendance," she said.

Once again Santa will still be skydiving in thanks to Skydive Noosa and carols will run from 3pm til 7.30pm with The Doo Wop Dolls and Annie J Fusion.

There will be food vendors, market stall holders, plenty of carols, face painting and roving performers.
