Palaszczuk calls out Newman on 'inappropriate' comments

OPPOSITION leader Annastacia Palaszczuk has asked the Queensland speaker to consider whether the Premier should be in contempt of parliament.

She said Campbell Newman's media comments about the state's independent watchdog and related parliamentary committee were "not appropriate".

Ms Palaszczuk said Mr Newman accusing the Parliamentary Crime and Misconduct Committee of shredding documents and commenting on Crime and Misconduct Committee operations was ground for contempt.

"It has to end," she said.

"There are too many cooks in the kitchen at the moment; the Attorney-General, the Treasurer and the Premier all need to butt out.

"The PCMC and the CMC need to have their integrity kept above all costs.

"What we have seen very clearly is an attack by the executive government on the PCMC and CMC.

"The LNP clearly has an agenda here.

"They should be strengthening the CMC, not watering it down, not tearing it apart."
