New Noosa mayor in corrupt conduct probe
THE Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) has confirm a complaint was lodged with in March last year alleging corrupt conduct involving new Noosa Mayor Tony Wellington.
The CCC said it assessed the complaint in April 2015 noting its role was not the conduct of an investigation.
"When the CCC receives a complaint, it first conducts an assessment to determine whether the matter falls within the CCC's jurisdiction, whether an investigation is warranted, and, if so, which agency should be responsible,'' a spokesperson said.
"The CCC determined at the time of the assessment that it was appropriate to refer the matter to the Queensland Police Service (QPS). The CCC understands the QPS is continuing to deal with the matter."
"It is therefore not appropriate for the CCC to comment further."
Mr Wellington has denied any knowledge of what is alleged or that any investigation was underway.
"I have not been approached by the police or any other authority including the CCC,'' he said.
"I've received no correspondence or phone calls from either about any investigation.''
The Sunshine Coast Daily understands a number of people in Noosa have been interviewed by police, but as yet we remain unaware of the nature of the complaint.
Queensland Police are being contacted for further comment.
