Mad Max: Fury Road steamrolls the Oscars
THE Aussies came, saw and conquered at today's Academy Awards in Los Angeles.
It was already a record year with 15 Australians nominated.
While leading lady Cate Blanchett lost out on Best Actress to Brie Larson, eight Australians did take home awards thanks to the technical achievements of Mad Max: Fury Road.
All of the winners thanked Chinchilla-born director George Miller for his creative vision they helped to bring to life on the big screen.
"Us Mad Maxers are doing OK tonight," said Best Editing winner and Miller's partner Margaret Sixel.
"To be honored tonight is more than we could even have hoped for."
Other first-time Aussie nominees and winners from the Mad Max crew included Damian Martin, Elka Wardega and Lesley Vanderwalt for hair and makeup, Colin Gibson and Lisa Thompson for production design, David White for sound editing and Ben Osmo for sound mixing.
The film bagged six Academy Awards in total. The Revenant won three but was surprisingly pipped to the Best Picture award by Spotlight, which also won Best Original Screenplay.
