Lions set to roar

ALL the president's men at the Noosa Lions Football Club are gearing up for a huge 2012 and are shaping to fire up against the Sunshine Coast Fire.

Alan Taylor, president of Noosa Lions, has signed up his management team for next season's senior football.

Kevin Evans will be in charge of all senior football at the club. Kevin, who played for Leeds United and Swansea City in the UK, took all three senior teams to last year's finals and is aiming for a repeat performance over the coming months.

Phil Amson, who successfully took the reserves to the finals last season.

Ben Cahn, captain of the premiers and coach of last season's beaten grand finalists at under 17, who is hoping to go one better this year.

Taylor said he was absolutely delighted to have secured the service of three of the best coaches on the coast.

"It looks like we are going to have another brilliant season," he said.

Senior training starts on January 5, and junior training/trials starts at 5pm on January 10. Everyone is welcome.

In these difficult times when money is hard to come by, the Noosa Lions Football Club has come up with an innovative scheme to find sponsors.

Potential sponsors buy a raffle ticket for $100 and have the chance to win one of eight prizes. The top prize is to be the main shirt sponsor for the senior men's team.

Other prizes include the shirt sponsorship for other senior teams and naming rights for the canteen and bar.

All participants will be acknowledged on the club website.

Taylor said that with cash in short supply, the club felt local businesses would be in a better position to donate $100 rather than thousands.

"Running a club of our size is an expensive business and this scheme allows us to keep the fees at an acceptable level whilst giving us the money to have the right equipment and appropriate coaching staff to improve the standard and give all our members an enjoyable, and hopefully successful season."

The grand draw for the raffle will take place at The Noosa Lions' ground at McKinnon Dr, Tewantin on February 11 about 6.45pm. On that night, the Sunshine Coast Fire will play an exhibition match against the Noosa Lions seniors, and the Fire under 19s will play the Noosa Lions reserves.

All are welcome, and admission is free. Come and join in the fun, watch some fabulous football and discover who has won the raffle.
