Leonard Cohen show comes to town
MY LEONARD Cohen – the works of the legendary artist, performed by Stewart D’Arrietta and his six-piece band – plays The Event Centre, Caloundra, on Sunday, May 22.
The acclaimed show was nominated for a prestigious Helpmann Award – just as the tour kicked off in Melbourne this month.
The Helpmann Awards recognise distinguished artistic achievement and excellence in the many disciplines of Australia's vibrant live performance sectors, including musical theatre, contemporary music, comedy, cabaret, opera, classical music, theatre, dance and physical theatre.
Over the past two decades in Australia and around the world, D’Arrietta has enjoyed rave reviews for his shows both in Australia and overseas, most notably Lennon: Through A Glass Onion (co-created with John Waters) and Belly of a Drunken Piano (a Tom Waits homage).
My Leonard Cohen is receiving similar praise from critics and fans alike.
D’Arrietta’s musical interpretations are gutsy and arresting, and his stories add an intimate insight into Cohen’s life and motivations.
The soundtrack to the lives of generations, this selection of Cohen’s music transports you to the timeless notions of love and loss, sex and heartache, all wrapped up in a powerful and sensual musical show.
The 15 songs performed include the heart-rending Suzanne, the Tower of Song, the desperately seductive I’m Your Man, the rousing Hallelujah and many more.
