Snake handler appalled python bashed and left to die
A SUNSHINE COAST snake catcher is appalled a carpet python was attacked, stuffed into a bag and left for dead at Currimundi.
Richie Gilbert urged his Facebook followers to share the story.
Mr Gilbert posted on Facebook about the carpet python he found bashed and stuffed inside a plastic bag and dumped next to Currimundi lake.
"Absolutely disgraceful!" Mr Gilbert wrote.
"It had clearly been beaten with something and appeared to have a broken back.
"It couldn't move the back half of its body and I felt sick just watching it try to move, I was thinking to myself about the type of person that would do something like this.
"It was originally found on Australia Day (ironic hey).
"The bloke that found it, freed it from the bag and placed it back down in the bush thinking it might come good.
"Today, 10 days later he came across it again still lying in the same place and alerted the council who phoned me. I took it to the team at Aussie Zoo who made a quick decision to put the animal to sleep.
"A big congratulations to the uneducated redneck for killing a perfectly harmless and beautiful animal. You are a twerp and I hope you come across this story and feel shame and embarrassment."
