Globetrotting Ron is TripAdvisor's reviewer of the year

HE HAS travelled more than three-million kilometres, visited 520 cities across 46 countries and has shared it all with like-minded adventurers.

Eumundi resident Ron Scott was named TripAdvisor's Food Reviewer of the Year and Australian Review Contributor of the Year for 2015.

The latter was for the second year running.

Mr Scott has racked up more than 3500 reviews to become one of the country's top contributors.

One place Mr Scott simply can't get enough of is Clarksdale in Mississippi in the US.

The "home of the crossroads" has captivated him with its passion and dedication to music.

"It's just a small town but they have some amazing music festivals and they are so different to the big events in arenas," he said.

"The whole town just becomes one large music activity, and the Juke Joints such as Ground Zero are amazing."

Mr Scott's wife Lynn is a passionate birdwatcher and revelled in the opportunity to see rare birds in Machu Picchu and exploring the wildlife throughout Africa.

It is Mrs Scott's dream to visit Antarctica - one of the few places where they are yet to venture.

But Mr Scott will need more convincing.

"I would love to go, but as soon as they mentioned going through the great passage and rock and rolling for two days, I thought maybe I don't want to go because the idea of being seasick is not appealing," he said.

The Scotts sold their Sydney-based business a year ago and moved to the Sunshine Coast - a move Mr Scott said he wished they had made sooner.

Still a regular visitor to his former stomping ground, Mr Scott said he had discovered Sydney through different eyes by reading reviews from TripAdvisor contributors.

"When you live there and work full-time, you don't even think about what's possible," he said.

"I had lived in Sydney for years and I'm now seeing things I didn't even know about. I stay in a different hotel each time in a different area and every community has its own feel."

Becoming a TripAdvisor reader and contributor went hand in hand for Mr Scott, who said the website had saved him from making the same mistakes others who had gone before him had experienced.

Among his favourite places to visit is Cuba, where he felt he was in a "time warp".

"It's like you are going back 200 years ago when you see how the people live," Mr Scott said.

"They are so happy, even though they are not wealthy, and they live life to the fullest."

Mr Scott will only spend another two weeks on the Coast before setting off on his next adventure: two weeks touring blues festivals in Mississippi before moving on to New York and Chicago.
