Farmers need more unified representation
LOBBYING efforts for farmers should be brought together, in a "more unified model of representation", a report for the National Farmers' Federation has found.
The report, released at the peak farm lobby conference in Canberra on Tuesday, found many primary producers wanted a new model of groups to represent their interests.
It also recommended changes to the current system that could spell the end for smaller sector-based groups.
But NFF president Brent Finlay said all the peak body's 30 member groups would be consulted about how and when to move to a "more unified model".
He said the NFF would now spend until March next year exploring the options, and the industry's response was "about working together".
Working groups will now be established within the peak farm group to review the report and talk to members and non-members about potential changes.
