Falling for the hinterland
IF YOU love the water but crave something a little different these holidays, the Sunshine Coast hinterland is well worth a visit.
Why not pack your togs and head to Kondalilla National Park, nestled in the heart of the hinterland, for a day trip. Near Montville, the national park is the ideal place to enjoy a barbecue picnic, go for a rainforest walk or take a dip.
Enjoy the serenity of the falls and let the kids run free in the grassed park as you enjoy the panoramic view.
If you are feeling adventurous, trek along part of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk. It traverses 58km of the hinterland, past gorges, waterfalls and rock pools.
The hinterland is the natural habitat for hundreds of species of flora and fauna, so make sure to keep an eye out for more than 100 species of birds or the 70 reptile species along the way.
If you haven't packed a picnic, head to Montville for a bite to eat at one of the many cafes and restaurants along Main St.
From food to art and everything in between, there is something for all the family to enjoy in Montville.
While on the Blackall Range and the greater hinterland, visitors can do a waterfall circuit that could take in Gardners Falls in Maleny, Kondalilla Falls, Mapleton Falls and even Booloumba Falls and Gorge in Conondale National Park near Kenilworth.
The circuit can be covered in a day by vehicle and then foot.
