Facebook shuts down ‘sexist’ Blokes Advice page
A FACEBOOK group that made headlines for posting sexist and violent material against women appears to have been shut down after a sustained campaign from activists.
Facebook initially refused to close the invite-only Blokes Advice group that had more than 200,000 members, only removing specific offensive posts.
Almost 15,000 people signed a petition to have the page deleted from the social media website.
The petition was set up by the co-ordinator of domestic violence awareness group The Red Heart Campaign, Sherele Moody.
"Really, all I want to do is share inspiring stories of domestic violence survival," Ms Moody said.
"Sadly, the men behind BA have set up a website but if we see evidence of this activity continuing we will pursue all legal avenues available," Ms Moody said.
