Exclusive: Exit poll winners to be published on Tuesday

IN TOMORROW'S Sunshine Coast Daily, we will reveal the results of our exclusive exit poll conducted at a series of You Decide election forums held over the past three weeks.

In total about 2000 people attended the eight Sunshine Coast Daily meet-the-candidate events held across the Sunshine Coast and Noosa.

The Daily partnered with various community groups to host the forums, which were designed to help voters make up their mind ahead of the Sunshine Coast and Noosa Shire council elections on March 19.

As well as giving the opportunity for candidates to outline their platform, the would-be councillors and mayors were also grilled by Sunshine Coast Daily editor Jenna Cairney, who asked them to answer a series of reader questions.

At each event, the audience was invited to complete an exit poll to indicate which candidate performed best on the evening and in turn, which candidate would get the audience member's vote.

Ms Cairney said the results will be very interesting.

"The Daily team is busy counting up the votes and we know people are waiting with anticipation to hear who came out on top at each of the events," she said.

"What was probably the most satisfying piece of feedback we received, was that a number of attendees went to the forums thinking they knew who they wanted to vote for.

"Then they said after the debate, they had completely changed their minds."

She said, while the exit polls were only a small sample of some very engaged voters and by no means a predictor of the actual election results, it was interesting all the same to see which candidates brought their A-game on the night.

"I think there will be a few surprises in there. Whether that's seen at the actual polls or not, is a whole different story though."
