Accused drug traffickers held in custody after raids

FOUR people have appeared by video link in the Roma Magistrates Court this morning, in connection with yesterday's southwest drug bust.

A 41-year-old man and two 37-year-old men have been remanded in custody, to reappear in the Roma Magistrates Court July 31.

A 26-year-old woman has also been remanded in custody and will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 8.

More than 11 people were arrested on 633 charges during dawn raids in Roma yesterday, as police worked to shut down a major drug trafficking ring in South West Queensland.

Officers from across Queensland including detectives from Roma, St George, Charleville, Dalby, Kingaroy and Murgon Criminal Investigation Branch with assistance from the State Drug Squad executed about 40 search warrants at properties across Roma.

One of the 37-year-old men, apprehended at a Derry St address, had his charges increased from 392 to more than 400 counts of supplying ice to people around Roma and the surrounds, as well as property related offences and the offence of perverting the course of justice.

Police seized 147.2g of ice, valued at about $147,000, from a vehicle on Bond St days earlier.

Proactive strategies including vehicle intercepts and the execution of search warrants over the past year had already resulted in apprehending 92 people on 176 charges.
