Crabs on the crawl if you know where to look

Again the pelagics are dominating the inshore areas.

For those heading out in the boat, tuna and mackerel species are hunting down the bait balls and are great fun to catch on the light spin gear.

As I’ve mentioned plenty of times the diving birds should lead you to the fish so keep your eyes peeled.

In the rivers, mud crabs will be worth chasing with some beauties caught the past few days.

Targeting pelagics

The trend has been north along the coastline off Sunshine Beach and then south as far as Bribie Island.

They are only a few kilometres off the coastline.

Small metal slugs, plastics and surface lures are all catching fish.

It is also worth trolling larger hard body lures with the odd Spanish sneaking around.

They love speed so make sure your retrieve is nice and quick and only use light monofilament around the 10kg so you can cast a lot further into the schools when they are a bit spooked.

They are being caught in the middle to lower reaches of the rivers at the moment.

Fresh fish frames are best for bait.

Work the flats and leave your pots in overnight for the best results.
