Coast Lions welcome new leader to pride

The Lions zone which encompasses the Sunshine Coast and surrounding regions is pleased to announce that David Watts has been installed as the district governor.

David joined Lions in 1985 as a member of the Tewantin Noosa Lions Club.

Due to employment transfers he has been a member of the Atherton and Cairns Barrier Reef Lions Clubs before retiring and transferring back to the Tewantin Lions Club.

He has held most executive positions in all clubs and has been a member of district cabinet for 11 years.

David is married with two sons and a daughter with seven grandchildren and when time permits loves walking, gardening, and caravanning.

He is proud to lead Lions in a zone that has large distances to travel.

David looks after 63 Lions Clubs, 9 Lioness clubs and 4 Leos clubs in a district ranging from Mooloolaba in the south to Marlborough in the north and west to Winton.

Lions in Australia began at Lismore in 1947 and now has 30,000 members and 1250 clubs which also includes Papua New Guinea.

David’s role has certainly changed with COVID-19 restrictions but he is more than encouraged by the way clubs have adapted to the changes and are now assisting their local communities in the way Lions only can, under the motto of “We Serve”.

His theme for the year is “Together We Will Achieve”.

He believes that by working as a team Lions can assist local communities and individuals across a wider spectrum rather than working individually.

Going forward Lions have five world objectives, and these are helping with diabetes, hunger, vision, environment and childhood cancer.

Additionally, David would like to highlight that our zone and Lions around Australia stand ready at a moment’s notice to offer support in disaster and drought response with manpower and funds.

All money raised goes directly to the local community as fast as possible without extra costs.
