Coast artist pens portrait in mum’s heartfelt words
A SUNSHINE Coast artist has penned a portrait in a mother's loving words which is featured in one of the most tear-jerking ads of the year.
Claire Matthews was commissioned by Melbourne creative agency McCann to pen the portrait for use in an ad for Bic Cristal pens.
The portrait of a mother and daughter was fashioned from the words in a letter Bic says were written by a mother wrote to her son and shared with the company.
The ad, featuring Ms Matthews' portrait, has so far been viewed more than 400,000 times on Facebook.
Ms Matthews, also known as Fuzelliear, is building a reputation for her amazingly detailed portrait work, which looks likely to taker her away from her job at the Boardstore, Maroochydore.
Her murals adorn the walls of The Post Office Bar and Restaurant at Maroochydore but she is often to be found drawing at night time in front of a James Bond movie or other action flick.
Her designs have made it on to t-shirts for skate/street fashion label Volcom and there are rumours they will not be the last time her art is seen on clothing.
On Facebook, Ms Matthews wrote that she was "honoured" to partner with McCann Melbourne on the project for Bic pens.
She said the project had pushed her to create something "totally new" and described it as "a challenge and a joy".
"I always use Bic pens so working on a campaign with them is a dream come true," she said.
For the record, here is the letter used to create the portrait:
My dear Diego, I'm writing this with the hope that you'll read it when you're much older and understand how much you mean to me at this very moment, and how much you'll always mean to me. You came to me from a place of love. I was so excited, so happy. I couldn't wait to meet you. You finally arrived and made me a mother, the happiest day of my existence, the day I gave birth to you. I want you to be a baby forever so I can look after you and protect you but at the same time, I want you to grow up and become your own man. Today my arms cradle you and you fill my soul with joy. I sing to you, hug you, stare at you, and sigh, just waiting for the moment you will call me, Mum. One day you will read this and all I really want you to know was that the first day of your life was the best day of mine. Love you forever, Mum.
