Book a night of big fun and discussion

JOIN a fun night of discussion and laughter with special guests at Sunshine Coast Libraries Big Book Club at Maroochydore Library on Thursday night.

Special guests on the Big Book Club panel include Australian author and Professor of Creative Writing at University of the Sunshine Coast Gary Crew and popular local radio announcer and Sunshine Coast Daily columnist Caroline Hutchinson.

This dynamic duo will lead a review of award-winning fiction The Elegance of the Hedgehog.

Crew is the author of more than 80 illustrated books, short stories, anthologies, novellas and novels and his works are published in translation all over the world.

He began the Bachelor of Creative Writing Program at USC and introduced the successful Doctor of Creative Arts program.

He presents workshops for adult and student writers across Australia and South-East Asia.

A literary best-seller, The Elegance of the Hedgehog is by the French novelist and professor of philosophy Muriel Barbery.

Based on the life events of a concierge whose intelligence is revealed by the upper-class daughter of a Parisian family, the book's themes revolve around philosophy, class structure and conflict.

Barbery's novel sold more than two million copies, has been translated into 40 languages and won critical and literary awards worldwide. The Elegance of the Hedgehog will be available to buy on the night.

The featured artist is acoustic muso Josh Curtis.

Tickets for the event from from 6 to 8pm are $25 per person and bookings are a must via the council's library website.

Light refreshments and non-alcoholic beverages will be included.

Sunshine Coast Libraries has 151 registered book clubs with a collection of 500 titles and is a great way to socialise and meet new people.
