Australia goes crazy for Noosa coffee blend

IT appears the rest of Australia is going crazy for Noosa coffee blends after a local roaster recently won top prize of Coffee Champion 2019.

Noosaville’s First Batch Coffee Roasters attended the Hobart Fine Food Awards where they were crowned overall winner for their Summer Blend filter coffee.

Owner and roaster Brent Deller said he was pleased to have come away with such positive results.

“Roasters from around the country nominated their coffee,” he said.

“We won gold for our filter coffee but it was also the highest scoring of all the categories so that gave us coffee champion.”

Mr Deller, who has been in the industry for 18 years, said the coffee was all judged off a blind tasting.

“For our blend the judges were looking for a good body and aroma as well as balance and acidity. It’s important one doesn’t overpower the other.”

First Batch recently celebrated their fourth birthday and Mr Deller said with such a strong coffee culture in Noosa they hope to keep kicking goals.

“The coffee culture in Noosa is unreal,” he said.

“There a lot of roasters in the area and it really drives performance.

“We have to keep pushing to know that we’re on track.”

The team picked up a further 12 awards in Hobart including silver awards for their popular Venture Blend and single origins Ethiopia and Brazil.
