Escaped inmate caught after nine days on the run

AN ACMENA inmate who escaped from a Grafton dentist close to two weeks ago has been returned to custody, sans handcuffs.

Police said the 16-year-old was located in the the back seat of a car travelling north on the Pacific Highway at South Grafton, which was pulled over about 6pm on Friday afternoon.

The teenager gave Juvenile Justice officers the slip while still in handcuffs in Grafton on May 25, during on outing to a Bacon St dentist.

Coffs/Clarence duty officer Inspector Tony Milner said the inmate has now been returned to the juvenile detention centre.

He is expected to appear in Grafton Children's Court in relation to the fresh charge of escaping lawful custody.
