There are a couple of ways for families to find the treats and steer clear of nasty tricks.

The Caloundra Halloween Safe House project, was started after the scary clown phenomenon emerged, and it's one of many projects of its kind across the country.

Queensland Police has also created posters to download and display whether or not a home welcomes trick or treaters.

Police remind parents all children should be accompanied by an adult while out collecting treats.
