5 things to do in Noosa this week

1. Check out the talented surfers

This week at the Laguna Real Estate Noosa Festival of Surfing it is all about experienced surfers showing the young ones how it's done, with age heats for men and women beginning at 40 and up to 70-plus. And there's professional women's and men's heats, logger pro and men's and women's open heats.

2. Live music

If your feet find their groove on the sand rather than on the surf, there's plenty of free live music at the XXXX Summer Beach Bar and Cafe Le Monde. Bearfoot, Pat Capocci, Los Laws, Tobias and Band of Frequencies are just some of the acts gracing the beach stage this week. Maybe you're into listening to your own music. @crowdDJ app lets you choose the soundtrack to the festival.

3. Sandcastles, yoga

For the children, there's sandcastle building workshops and an indigenous cultural education show from 3pm today at the Noosa Festival of Surfing. For the parents, early risers can take part in free yoga by the beach at 7am every day. Wellness Wednesday will have you sweating if you decide to try HIIT on the beach or a core-based pilates workout, followed by relaxing mindful meditation.

4. Empower women

Wednesday is International Women's Day, so remind a woman you love just how powerful and important she is. The theme is "be bold for change”, asking women and men to help forge a better, more inclusive gender equal world.

5. Rock and roll

Rock out at the Tewantin- Noosa RSL with The Sweaty Palms this Friday night. The Sweaty Palms are always keen to play early Australian classic rock songs from iconic artists, as well as some of their own original power ballads. With 14 albums and 40 years of touring up their sleeves, the lads will be tight, right and ready to rock all night.
